35,000 more CCTVs to come up on busy roads

security news

Having already implemented approximately 1.33 lakh CCTV cameras across streets and neighborhoods in the city during Phase 1, the Delhi government is now set to install an additional 35,000 cameras every 100 meters along busy roads to enhance the safety of pedestrians and commuters.

This initiative, constituting Phase 2, will see the installation of cameras along stretches spanning 1,400 km under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD). Officials have reported that work on the second phase is currently underway and is slated for completion by December.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who oversees the PWD portfolio, conducted a meeting of the expenditure finance committee (EFC) on Monday to review several key projects. During the meeting, he instructed PWD officials to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras on all roads falling under the department’s jurisdiction.

Additionally, Deputy CM Sisodia directed the department to establish an Integrated Control Centre capable of receiving feeds from all cameras, contributing to efforts aimed at enhancing road infrastructure.

In addition to the CCTV project, the Deputy CM scrutinized the progress of various other PWD projects sanctioned by the EFC. These include the installation of 115-feet high Tricolour installations at 500 locations, the construction of a double-decker flyover between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura as part of the Maujpur-Majlis Park Metro corridor, and the implementation of free WiFi services.
